Perfect Christmas Dinner – on Boxing Day

As J finished work at midday today, we had our perfect Christmas dinner on Boxing Day evening…

Tom Aikens’ seven-hour cooked shoulder of lamb with balsamic and onions, the lamb sourced from Liz the Lamb Lady.

Potatoes dauphinoise.

Brussels sprouts.

Accompanied by a nice bottle of d’Arenberg Laughing Magpie Shiraz/Viognier.

And Ella on the iPod.

L’artisan du Chocolat choccies now, mince pies later, maybe.

Zambia

View from the Intercon, Lusaka
I had a really enjoyable visit to Zambia last week, spending four days in the office in Lusaka.

The weather was great – around 28-30 deg C, sunny with the occasional thunderstorm. People in the office were friendly and welcoming, and what I saw of Lusaka was great – particularly Marlin and Rhapsody’s restaurants. I only wish I had more time there.

I really enjoyed the World Pipe Band Championships on Glasgow Green yesterday. Fortunately the weather held off and it didn’t turn into a Glasto mudbath. I spent most of the time at the Grade 1 Final Tuning Area, as the top bands pay attention to the detail that they hope will get them the ultimate prize in the pipe band world. I wish I knew more about the subtleties of what differentiates the bands.

The only bad news was that the Simon Fraser University PB from Vancouver wrested the title from Field Marshall Montgomery.
