My brother Roger and I have been researching the Adams and Thompson family histories for a couple of years. This page presents some of the interesting stories so far:
John Adams (1892-1971) was our grandfather. The subsite at letters.johnadams.org.uk relates his own short account of his service with the 9th Batt. Royal Irish Fusiliers in the Great War, and allows you to read his letters home from 1914-1919.
You can also read his Diary of a Sergt Instructor, when he worked for the ‘B’ Specials (reserve force of the Royal Ulster Constabulary) in the 1920s.
Old Cine Films taken by my Mum and Dad during the 1960s.
Robert Kerneghen (1841-1913) was a great-great-uncle. He was a stonemason who laid the cornerstone for the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield. An active man into his seventies, read how he died.
The Ulster Covenant (1912) was a document signed by over half a million people on September 28, 1912, opposing Home Rule for Ireland. Many of our relatives signed the document, and it allows us to view their signatures.
Markethill in WW2. My grandfather, William Thompson, was RUC station sergeant in Markethill during WW2.
