Spring flowers

Managed to get out into the garden for a while yesterday, in between darting indoors to watch Ireland’s scrappy victory over England in the rugby.

blue irisThe irises are in full bloom, both blue and purple varieties.

We planted our new pear tree, and sowed peas, broad beans, sweet peas, antirhinums, anemones and lilies. The greenhouse is now getting full, particularly with the heated propagator.

Scrappy? It was a great match. Ireland played superbly, with a fantastic defence, let down only with that awful try. Illegal, but there was much too big a gap. England still have a lot to do. I don’t think they could have defended such an intense attack and given no penalties away. Just France to beat, then a Grand Slam decider at Landsdowne Road boyo. Looking forward to seeing O’Driscoll as Lions captain.

Not impressed with the ‘darting indoors’ bit. Get your priorities straight. I arrived home from Dartmoor, turned the telly on, O’Gara kicks off and only then did I take my boots off. Started shouting at the telly very shortly afterwards!

Mmm, maybe your fact-checker had the day off, but the potential Grand Slam decider is at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

And yes, I was shouting at the telly too. Jacqueline was in the garden, hiding.

…and I was watching ‘Star Trek : Enterprise’ on channel 4. Guess which one of us did’t go to a grammer school. (I think with the way ‘Enterprise’ is going, I should of just watched the match).

Aha, thought we were playing France in Paris too. Don’t usually bother with facts. Very messy, inconvenient things. Tend to get in the way of a good argument. I am from Ulster after all.

Know what you mean - the girls didn’t stay to watch much of the match with me. They just roll their eyes and go to do something quieter instead.

Anything is quieter than being in the same house as Rog and and Irish rugby match.

Why do you think Jacqueline was in the greenhouse?

I fully commiserate with her. The girls used to cry when Roger watched rugby as he shouts so much.

Did I never mention that I am Welsh, Rog? If we were to lose the Grand Slam to anyone I would chose the Irish, given that I am eighth Irish, but this year I have a feeling we might just do it. Assuming the referee from the Ireland vs England game is not involved. He’d clearly been tapped up.

…and I think the Irish just might do it too. The main thing is that it isn’t England, and I’m hoping, against hope, that Italy can do for them as well. Looking forward to D’Arcy returning to the team against France - good timing - it’ll be a tough match.

You won’t be surprised that I was quite happy with Kaplan - except for England’s try, which should have been disallowed. Kaplan is doing the Scotland - Wales fixture. And Wales have some footballer captaining for this match - Michael Owen - surely a blunder? Won’t Ferguson need him?
